PVC is a thermoplastic produced of 57% chlorine and 43% carbon. It is less reliant than other polymers on oil or natural gas, that are nonrenewable, and hence can be regarded as a natural resource saving plastic, in contrast to plastics such as PE, PP, PET and PS, which are completely dependent on oil or gas. This chlorine gives PVC excellent fire resistance: when PVC is set on fire, the flames go out as the fire source is removed due to the material’s self-extinguishing properties.
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC, or vinyl) is utilized in a variation of applications in the electronics, building and construction, health care, automobile and other sectors, in products ranging from piping and siding, blood bags and tubing, to wire and cable insulation, windshield system components and more.
